ABOUT ME: My name is Joe Jennings and I'm an aerial stunt coordinator and second unit director in Los Angeles. I've been in the business for over 20 years and have won many awards including two Emmys for cinematography (see my resume). You can also learn more about my work at skydive.tv.
WHY AM I DOING THIS?
Do not get obsolete like an old technology, keep innovating yourself.
― Sukant Ratnakar
BUSINESS MODEL: It’s a great business model. I can deliver Hollywood quality stunts at a fraction of the cost. And a producer on the other side of the planet can afford an exciting stunt.
TECHNOLOGY: On some jobs, I send clips of what we're filming to the director's phone, maybe 100 miles away. And the director can give us real time feedback. Its amazing! If I can do this for a director who is 100 miles away, why not for anyone in the world? Today's technology is a game changer.
WHY DO IT THIS WAY?
Regulations may restrict aerial activities in your region.
You may have limited access to aircraft and qualified stunt performers.
Traveling abroad to produce aerial stunts may be cost prohibitive.
WHY DO IT WITH ME?
I’ve directed skydiving stunts for over 20 years (resume) and I’m very good at aerial storytelling. I fly with world champions and Red Bull athletes, and my contacts in the skydiving industry for equipment and personnel are unmatched.
MORE
The amount of spending I've seen in productions over the years is mind blowing. Entire crews will converge on an airport with RVs, wardrobe, teamsters, massive insurance, catering, tents, DITs, the works. And everything will hinge on the footage that comes from the camera on my head! All of this around a single helmet camera. Between jumps, the director will view my footage and check off shots on the story boards. The best directors cut us loose because they know we're experts at aerial storytelling. So I look around at all of this, and I know I can deliver the same quality for maybe ten or fifteen percent of the cost.
My operation is turn key. I have locations, aircraft, pilots, skydivers, riggers, and cutting edge cinematography. I fly with a helmet mounted Red Dragon camera and I have access to helicopter mounted camera systems and operators.
I think this is an idea who's time has come. An entire second unit project can be mailed across the globe in all of its glory on a single hard drive. Ten years ago, that'd be practically impossible. Today, we can send our clients quicktime videos from remote locations to mark our progress as we film. Technology is the game changer.
Feel free to email or call me any time to discuss these ideas further. I'd love to explore the possibilities with you.
Thanks so much!
Joe
